Siddhartha

or for free
Wow, I am reading this gem of a book once again, and well yeah… wow.

The simple precision of the language and the elegance of the characitures amazes me.

I wholehearedly recommend this book.

a quote for you:
“You know how to talk wisely, my friend. Be aware of too much wisdom!”
and a very interesting translation issue emerges ,as i enjoy the translation in the old paper copy that i am borrowing from my mother much more:

“you know how to speak cleverly, my friend. Be on your guard against too much cleverness.”
- The illustrious One, Gotama Buddha, to Siddhartha

Here is the german (presumably the original):
“Klug bist du, o Samana”, sprach der Ehrwürdige.

“Klug weißt du zu reden, mein Freund. Hüte dich vor allzu großer
Klugheit!”

wondering what some native german speakers may say to the translation of “Klug”??
LEO includes both wise and clever - but i do prefer clever in this context
